Review Policy

General Information

I am currently accepting Adult, Young Adult, and Middle Grade books to review. You can email me at with requests and more information.

I accept print ARCs and finished copies, e-books, and indie press books. If the book is a part of a series, then I may need the previous books.

I am willing to read just about anything, but like any person I have favorite genres and genres that just don’t pique my interest.

I will accept books from the following genres:

  • Fantasy
  • Historical fiction and select historical non-fiction
  • Fairy tale/myth retellings
  • Paranormal
  • Mystery
  • Poetry
  • Short story compilations
  • Graphic Novels

I am NOT accepting books in the following genres:

  • Non-fiction (with the exception of select historical books)
  • Memoirs/modern biographies
  • Romance
  • Gothic horror/romance
  • Contemporary (this is negotiable if it has a good summary)
  • “Issues” books (dying mothers, cancer diagnoses, mental illnesses, family drama, etc)
  • Extremely political or “hot button” topics
  • Overtly preachy religious fiction (Christian values are fine)
Accepting Books

Once I accept a book, depending on how many other books I have to read it will take anywhere from a day to a month to read the book and then post a review.

I will write a review for every book I finish. A slightly modified review will also appear on Goodreads with a link back to this blog. My reviews are written in a relaxed tone and tend to be a mind dump of what I thought about the book (what I liked and thought worked as well as what I thought didn’t). They are not meant to be objective literary critiques.

I write fair and honest reviews, but this does not mean I will always write positive reviews. My reviews are my opinion, and if I don’t enjoy a book then my review will reflect that.

With that said, I strive to explain why the book in question did not work for me personally. I do NOT write nasty or snarky commentary about the author.

If I do not finish a book I may write an explanation for DNF-ing. These explanations are different from standard reviews and will state that I did not finish the book and why it wasn’t clicking with me.

Review Structure
The post title will include the title of the book and the name of the author.

All reviews will include the following:

  • Cover art
  • Number rating (out of 5)
  • A synopsis
  • My review: What I liked and didn’t

Number Rating:

5/5 =  I loved this book and want to own a copy!

4/5 = I really enjoyed this book. It wasn’t a perfect “Special Shelf” match for me, but I really liked it. This is my most common rating.

3/5 = I liked this book overall, but there wasn’t anything overtly special about it. I finished it with out feeling anything one way or the other about it.
2/5= Significant number of things I didn’t like that negatively impacted my overall enjoyment, though I may still have liked some parts of this book.
1/5= I really didn’t like this book at all.
