Fantastic Friday (#8)

Happy Friday everyone!

This Friday I’d like to share with you guys the Nefertiti stories in Esther Friesner’s Princesses of Myth series.

Of the duologies that Friesner has written in this series of books, the Nefertiti ones are my favorite. I really enjoyed her characterization of Nefertiti and I loved the supporting cast of characters. It was also fun to see the blending of Egyptian history and Egyptian mythology into the plot line. Although Nefertiti is remembered for being extraordinarily beautiful, Friesner creates an intelligent, strong, kind, and sophisticated young woman that turns her narrative into something other than her looks. The series as a whole is a great way to introduce young girls to other cultures, but Egypt will always hold a special place in my heart.

  1. I’ve never read these but they sound fascinating 😀 Michelle Moran also wrote a great book concerning Nefertiti called (you guessed it) Nefertiti lol, and one about Nefertari called The Heretic Queen, both were amazing and beautifully done and I’d recommend them to anyone interested in ancient Egypt! (And her Cleopatra’s Daughter was brilliant as well.) 😀
