SYNOPSIS: A collection of myths and legends from various Native American tribes.
I personally think that the best way to learn about another culture is through their folktales and mythology and I felt like I learned some new and interesting stories and beliefs of the various tribes. This type of book is hard to review because this is a collection of various stories broken into ten different sections based on the topic, so the only thing I can really talk about with this book is the extra information provided by the editors of this book. My one problem was the inconstancy of the supplementary material. Each section had an introductory section where the editors would talk about what these types of stories would serve when told to the tribe which was interesting and informative, but some of the individual tales had some extra information that detailed the importance of the tale to that individual tribe and explained how this version varied from similar tales of different tribes. It was strange to me that all of the tales didn’t have this interesting supplementary material and I would have liked more of it. I recommend this book to anyone that is interested in folktales from other cultures besides your own.
